AC Mauger recycle at Le Squez
As part of the enabling package at the Le Squez Phase 4 AC Mauger were contracted to excavate and remove to the Jersey landfill tip approximately 20,000 tonnes of mixed material.
This consisted of vegetable matter, clay and broken building materials left after the demolition of the residential properties owned by Andium Homes.
To reduce the impact on the environment and minimise haulage and land fill tax, the material was screened to separate into recyclable grades. The majority of the graded material was fine soil-like material with a high percentage of vegetable matter. This material was transported to a site where it was used to raise the level of a rear garden and also provide a “heat sink” for an innovative heat recovery system for a private home. Thus reusing, recycling and creating a “green” solution whilst reducing the environmental impacts of this construction project.
The hard materials from the screenings were put through further on site crushers to produce a clean hardcore that could also be recycled on the island.
